What is this identifier?
Paste one in. UUID, ULID, KSUID, Snowflake, ObjectId, JWT, API keys, timestamps, hashes — it tells you what it is, when it was made, and what it says to whoever reads it.
Why it matters
An identifier is only opaque at a glance. A version 1 UUID carries the MAC address of the machine that made it; a Snowflake gives the millisecond and the server number; a ULID, a KSUID and an ObjectId all give the time. When those end up in a public URL, all of that goes with them.
Nothing leaves your machine
There is no network code in this page. A CI job greps for fetch,
XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, WebSocket and
hard-coded URLs, and fails the build if one turns up. That matters more than usual
here: the natural thing to paste into a box like this is a token.
In a terminal
npx github:CedricPoint/whatsthisid <id>
does the same thing, and takes a list.
